Dragon Warrior NES Clone
Clone of Dragon Warrior I for the NES made for fun and practice.
Controls
This assumes you are playing it like an NES game, so the controller buttons are mapped like this:
A - Xbox A, Keyboard Z
B - Xbox X, Keyboard X
Start - Xbox Start, Keyboard Enter
Select - Xbox Select, Keyboard Backspace
D-Pad - Xbox D-pad, Keyboard Arrows
Game controls (based on NES buttons):
Movement - D-Pad
Confirm/Menu/Advance Text - A
Cancel/Back - B
Start Game (On Title Screen) - Start
More in-depth instructions can be obtained by following a walktrough of the original game. This is a good one: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dragon_Warrior/Gameplay
Debug
The game comes with an added debug menu, available by pressing the ` key during field gameplay. It can be invoked at any time, but it will most likely cause bugs if used anywhere other than the regular field screen when not in battle
The debug options are:
- Teleport: Move to another map
- Set Stats
- Level Up: Go to the next level. Max level is 30
- Heal: Max out HP and MP
- Add 10 HP/M
- Add 100 or 1000 gold
- Add Item: Shows a list of available items to add in the game. Normally the player gets items in stacks unless they are key items. This command adds the item as a brand new stack even if there were duplicates before. It can also exceed the max amount of items stacks the player can normally have. Use with caution
- Activate Endgame: After activating this command, next time the hero goes to Tantegel Castle (main floor) the king will be there. Talking to him will start the ending sequence
Known Issues
- The item debug command can cause unintended behavior, like explained there
- Some sfx (particularly the blip that sounds when accepting a menu item) can play twice in a row in some contexts
- The weapon/armor shop textbox flickers a bit when interacting with the shop
- Sometimes the last line of dialogue on a conversation ends automatically
